Changes are planned for the way water companies charge Scout Groups in England and Wales for the disposal of rainwater.
In the past, organisations like Scout Groups and places of worship have not been charged for the surface water which runs into sewers.
Groups have reported an increase in water costs of between £60 and £600 a year. This represents between 1% and 25% of their overall budgets.
For example, 1st Weston and Weston Point Scout Group in Cheshire are now being charged £564 each year. When added to their metered water charges this accounts for around one third of their total annual budget.
The changes are not universal but will affect Scout Groups who own or lease their Meeting Place. At present only some of the water companies have implemented the charges but Ofwat, the water regulator, is determined to see all water companies introduce them by 2010. For more information on how to help this unfair cost goto www.scouts.org.uk/water or search for the Stop the Rain Tax group on Facebook.

I would like to say well done to everyone for raising so much money for Comic Relief! We raised just over £250 for Comic Relief. The best thing is that we all had fun doing the Make Over. I have to say that I was impressed with the quality of the make overs. I didn't realise that that boys loved make up so much ;) You can find the pictures in the Gallery. You will need to be a registered member to be able to view the pictures.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that turned up for the St Georges day parade and fun day on Saturday. In total we had 15 Explorers turn up. I have to say that I was amazed that you could all look so smart, and I did get some comments about how smart all the Explorers were. Andy Baird, the Silchester D.C would also like to pass on his thanks to those who helped with the car park marshelling. He was very impressed with the way the Explorers just got on with the job. All in all, it was a very good day, and I think I can say that everyone enjoyed themselves. Theres some pictures in the photo gallery and feel free to add your own pictures to the St Georges day album.

Gladiators are planning to raise loads of cash for Red Nose Day on the 13th March. You may ask how we are going to do do this. Well being Explorers its going to be mad! Our plan is to do the Great Gladiator Make-Over! The plan is that the Explorers are going to give each other a make-over The more money we raise, the better (or crazier) the make over will be! If we reach our target of £200, then the leaders will get a make over too So goto http://www.myrednoseday.com/gladiators for our very own Red Nose day page. Dan
